MANILA, Philippines—Javee Mocon showed Phoenix what it missed out on in NLEX’s most recent win in the PBA Philippine Cup on Sunday.

The Road Warriors trounced the Fuel Masters, 105-95, behind the efforts of Mocon, who delivered one of his best performances this conference at the expense of his former team.

“There’s always a chip on my shoulder against any team, whether it be against them or Rain or Shine,” said Mocon at Araneta Coliseum on Sunday after helping NLEX improve to 7-3.

“I have to prove, not to anybody at all, but just to myself that I have value and I can still play at a high level.”

Mocon finished just one rebound shy of a double-double with a team-high 23 points and nine rebounds in 35 minutes of action.

The San Beda product played without any lack of motivation against his former teammates.

Back in September of last year, the Fuel Masters shipped Mocon to the Road Warriors in exchange for Ato Ular and a 2026 second round pick.

Revenge was nowhere near Mocon’s motivators, though. Instead, the former NCAA standout credited coach Jong Uichico’s system for allowing him to shine.

“In these seven wins we have, in almost every game, the best players are different. It could be the rookies, (Robert) Bolick and now it’s me. It’s a testament to coach Jong’s system.”

“Coach Jong wants his system to work, which is for everybody. It’s [about] being selfless and being happy for the next man on the team.”

The Road Warriors and Mocon look to bolster their bid for a twice-to-beat advantage on Friday when they take on top seed Magnolia at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
